WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE MADE A TEAM?

We spent a significant amount of time considering this process.

There is a common thought among clubs that in order to ensure their roster spots are filled, a single day tryout is ample time for an athlete and their family to make a commitment about where they are going to spend the next nine months of their career and a significant amount of money. However we believe this causes undue stress on all parties - the athlete in question, their family, and the rest of the athletes in the gym.  We also feel there is a better way.
Per the SRVA rules, a player may either accept an offer, reject an offer, or say maybe to an offer.  If a player does not reject an offer - meaning they say "yes" or "maybe" then the offer must be honored by the club until commitment day.  The only way the club can give the position to someone else is if the offer is specifically rejected.   Even if the player accepts the offer, they can still change their mind inside the five-day SRVA window.

This rule was written with the intent of allowing an athlete to choose among clubs by not allowing a club to force them to commit.  If a club wants to take the chance and extend an offer before commitment day, they do so knowing full well that the only way they can rescind that offer is with an answer of "no" from the athlete.  They do so knowing that not even a "yes" answer is final.

We want athletes and their families to choose wisely and because of this we want them to be afforded every opportunity to check out every club they can and every program that's offered so they can find the best fit for them.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I MAKE A TEAM?

Once  an offer has been extended, and an athlete has accepted, they will be given information on where to attend commitment night.  This is where they will formally meet the rest of their teammates, sign their contract with their parents, and receive the rest of their on-boarding information including meeting with their coaches and arranging the first team meeting.

After commitment day, coaches will add players to their online roster at which point players and parents will be able to log in, view the members-only areas of the website, and arrange to pay their fees.

SRVA Tryout Policy

From the SRVA WEBSITE:

JUNIOR TRYOUT/COMMITMENT POLICY:

SRVA’s intent is to allow players to tryout with multiple clubs. A 5-day tryout period will not begin earlier than on the second Saturday in October for age groups 14 and below. A 5-day tryout period for ages 15 through 18 will not begin prior to the first day after the completion of each state’s high school championship. A tryout fee no greater than $75 may be collected during these periods. No player may be allowed to make a greater financial commitment to a club until:

For 14 and under players, the 6th day after the second Saturday in October.

-OR-

For players age 15 and above, the 6th day after the completion of that state’s high school championship.

Participants should be careful not to violate any high school or collegiate rules that may apply.

It shall not be considered a violation of the tryout policy for a club, following the beginning of the tryout period and prior to the commitment day, to provide a player/parent with a statement that the Club is offering the player a spot on a designated team, or the player is an alternate for a spot on a designated team. The Club may not withdraw the offer prior to the established commitment day unless the offer is rejected by the player/parent.

All club websites must prominently post the SRVA tryout policy or a link to it entitled “Link to the SRVA Tryout Policy” where their tryout information is located.
